Planning Tool
PAM Dosage and Monthly Consumption Calculator
Enter your flow rate and the dosage from your jar test to estimate how much dry polyacrylamide you will need per day, month and year. Results are planning estimates — dose must be confirmed by jar test, not set by this tool.
Formulas
kg/day = flow (m³/day) × dose (mg/L) ÷ 1,000
kg/month = kg/day × operating days/month
t/year = kg/day × operating days/year ÷ 1,000
Unit derivation: flow (m³/day) × 1,000 L/m³ × dose (mg/L) ÷ 1,000,000 mg/kg = flow × dose ÷ 1,000 (kg/day).
Your inputs
* Required. Dosage must be entered by you — this tool does not recommend a dose.
Worked example
A municipal wastewater plant treats 10,000 m³/day. A jar test set the PAM dose at 2 mg/L. The plant runs 30 days per month and 365 days per year.
kg/day = 10,000 × 2 ÷ 1,000 = 20 kg/day
kg/month = 20 × 30 = 600 kg/month
t/year = 20 × 365 ÷ 1,000 = 7.3 t/year
The dose of 2 mg/L in this example is illustrative only. Your actual dose must come from a jar test on your own feed water.
Applicability and limits
- This calculator applies only to dry-powder or granular PAM fed as a solution.
- Dose must be determined by jar test for your specific water chemistry and application.
- This tool does not select a grade, recommend a concentration, or certify equipment.
- Results are planning estimates and do not replace a process-design calculation or supplier quotation.
