Planning Tool
PAM Container Load and Freight Inquiry Calculator
Round your order to whole bags and pallets, check weight and pallet constraints against forwarder-verified capacity, and generate a ready-to-send freight inquiry brief. Container type is an inquiry label only — this tool does not apply a universal payload or pallet default.
Formulas
Bags = ⌈ order weight ÷ bag weight ⌉
Packaged product = bags × bag weight
Excess over requested = packaged product − order weight
Pallets = ⌈ bags ÷ bags per pallet ⌉
Containers (weight) = ⌈ packaged product ÷ cargo payload ⌉
Containers (pallets) = ⌈ pallets ÷ pallets per container ⌉
Containers required = max(weight containers, pallet containers)
Planning weight headroom = containers × cargo payload − packaged product
⌈ ⌉ = ceiling (round up to nearest whole number). Bags and pallets are always whole units. Cargo payload is your forwarder-confirmed figure — no site default is applied.
Your inputs
Order and packaging
Container and freight details
Label for your inquiry brief only — does not set payload or capacity.
Copied into your inquiry brief — does not change the arithmetic.
* Required. Cargo payload must be confirmed by your forwarder — no site default is applied.
Worked examples
Example 1 — Order fills two containers
25,000 kg requested; 25 kg bags; 40 bags/pallet; 20 pallets/container; 24,000 kg payload; CIF; Long Beach, USA.
Bags = ⌈25,000 ÷ 25⌉ = 1,000 bags
Packaged product = 1,000 × 25 = 25,000 kg
Pallets = ⌈1,000 ÷ 40⌉ = 25 pallets
Containers (weight) = ⌈25,000 ÷ 24,000⌉ = 2
Containers (pallets) = ⌈25 ÷ 20⌉ = 2
Containers required = max(2, 2) = 2 × 20GP
Planning weight headroom = 2 × 24,000 − 25,000 = 23,000 kg
Example 2 — One container, slight excess
25,010 kg requested; 25 kg bags; 40 bags/pallet; 30 pallets/container; 26,000 kg payload.
Bags = ⌈25,010 ÷ 25⌉ = 1,001 bags
Packaged product = 1,001 × 25 = 25,025 kg (15 kg above requested)
Pallets = ⌈1,001 ÷ 40⌉ = 26 pallets
Containers (weight) = ⌈25,025 ÷ 26,000⌉ = 1
Containers (pallets) = ⌈26 ÷ 30⌉ = 1
Planning weight headroom = 1 × 26,000 − 25,025 = 975 kg
Verified Gross Mass (VGM) — what this tool does not cover
Under SOLAS amendments and IMO MSC.1/Circ.1475, the shipper is responsible for providing certified VGM before a packed container is loaded onto a ship.
- VGM = total gross mass of all packages and items + pallets + dunnage and securing material + container tare
- This calculator uses net packaged product weight only — it does not calculate gross container mass
- Planning weight headroom based on this calculator does not confirm usable physical space or legal VGM capacity
- Verify payload, route limits and VGM requirements with your forwarder before booking
Forwarder and route verification checklist
- 1Confirm cargo payload and internal dimensions for your specific route and equipment
- 2Verify pallet configuration fits internal floor dimensions without exceeding height limits
- 3Check road and port weight restrictions at origin, transhipment and destination
- 4Obtain and submit certified VGM before vessel cut-off
- 5Confirm carrier acceptance for PAM commodity (HS code, SDS, MSDS)
- 6Clarify Incoterm responsibilities with your buyer or seller for the named place
- 7Review country-specific import regulations and any certificate requirements
